About
Why this came to be.
I have spent twenty years watching teams build products. This site is what I have been working on lately.
The shape of the question that runs through it (how do you know you are still doing the right thing?) is not academic for me. It is the shape of the work I have done, watched done, and got wrong. The last few years have made the question sharper, not different.
A small example. A while ago I built a clean proof of concept for a project of my own, in three weeks. The proof of concept looked good. It demonstrated something. It made me believe I was almost there. I am now several weeks into the production build of the same project, and only just past account creation. The proof of concept told me one story. The production work has been telling me another (gently, and then less gently) that I had never actually defined what there was.
That experience is what shifted my thinking from "AI tooling enables more" to "AI tooling enables more of whatever you had, including the thinness in your thinking." It is also what made me start writing the practices and the principles that this site is for.
